MP Moabi encourages residents to participate in the constitutional review

10 Jan 2022

Government departments have been encouraged to share resources such as vehicles for efficient service delivery.

Addressing a series of kgotla meetings in Jackalas NO 1, Ramokgwebana and Masukwane villages on Monday, Tati West MP Mr Simon Moabi said working as a team would help departments to tackle the needs of the community.

He cited unoccupied government staff houses, which he said could be allocated to some civil servants who did not have accommodation despite working for a different department.

This was after the chairperson of Ramokgwebana Village Development Committee (VDC), Mr Jaga Chalalisa complained about two staff houses belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture that had stayed for a long time without tenants.

Mr Moabi also briefed residents of the three villages on the constitutional review and the importance of their participation.

He said all parties, young, and old as well as those with disabilities, should put aside their political differences and contribute to the exercise. Residents called on the Commission to visit each village to get views correctly.

One of the residents, Mr Menton Tshware said the practice to have village representatives in one central point was uncalled for as the representatives would not fully represent the aspirations of their residents.

Another resident, Ms Kentse Moroke complained about poor service at the local clinic and explained that patients spent a lot of time at the clinic without help while in some instances, there was no provision of service on weekends.

Other residents appealed to government to increase VDC allowances.

They also complained about high water bills despite there being no water most of the time.

On other issues, MP Moabi welcomed Mr Gobe Macha as the new District Commissioner of North East.

Mr Macha replaces Mr Loeto Porati who retired from the public service early last year.

Mr Moabi commended Deputy Commissioner, Ms Itani Mathumo for having performed the duties of the substantive commissioner with distinction.

North East Deputy Council Chairperson and Councillor for Mbalambi, Mr Zibani Mbalambi said even though the council had taken a decision to install tower lights in each village in the district, shortage of funds had caused delays in most villages, Ramokgwebana included. Ends
