Acting president to attend special SADC summit
09 Jan 2022
Acting President Mr Slumber Tsogwane is scheduled to attend an extraordinary SADC heads of state and government meeting slated for Lilongwe, Malawi on Wednesday.
A Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation media statement says the summit will focus on reviewing the mandate of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).
The release explains that the summit will be preceded by Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation troika meeting as well as that of SADC Council of Ministers which will take place tomorrow.
Deployment of SAMIM was approved by an extraordinary SADC summit held in June last year to support Mozambique’s efforts to combat acts of terrorism and violent extremism in the country’s Cabo Delgado Province.
Mr Tsogwane will be accompanied by Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Kagiso Mmusi as well as senior government officials. Ends
