09 Jan 2022
Public servants have been urged to prepare for constitutional review exercise, population census and decentralisation policy.
Addressing heads of department in Letlhakane on Friday, Acting President Mr Slumber Tsogwane revealed that the commission of enquiry into constitutional review was expected to start work soon.
He said it should therefore find them prepared for the consultations.
Mr Tsogwane advised Batswana to bear in mind that the country was the epitome of democracy because of its constitution therefore some of its sections should be left as they were.
He further reminded the nation that the current constitution had sustained the country for more than 50 years.
“We cannot throw the baby with the bath water,” he said.
On another national exercise, Mr Tsogwane, who is Boteti West MP, urged his audience to participate in the upcoming population census which he said would result in the delimitation of constituencies.
They were also asked to prepare for the implementation of the decentralisation policy aimed at improving service delivery as well as rural development.
Mr Tsogwane informed his audience about President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s road map and priorities and urged all to make changes around the pillars.
He said President Masisi was committed to delivering on his promise to fight COVID-19 and saving lives by availing vaccines and other resources needed to fight the pandemic.
“We would rather disrupt our development plan to save the lives of our people,” he said. Ends
