Fuel prices adjusted
19 Dec 2021
Retail pump prices for petrol and diesel will be adjusted beginning midnight today.
A press release from Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) says unleaded petrol 93 will increase by P1.60 per litre, while unleaded petrol 95 will increase by P1.65 per litre.
The price for diesel 50ppm will increase by P1.75 per litre. The release says the upward adjustment of pump prices for all products was due to the movement of international product prices, exchange rates and Average Freight Rate Assessment (AFRA).
Furthermore, the media release says while the previous retail pump price upward adjustment was on October 08, 2021the accrued unit rates under recoveries (difference between actual cost of product and pump price) were never cleared by the price increase because international oil prices have generally been increasing.
It says the situation has led to increase of the cumulative debt between government and oil companies.
“Therefore, there is need for regular price adjustments to manage unit rates and the cumulative debt to oil companies,” says the release.ends
