Glitches in CKGR water delivery
15 Dec 2021
Ghanzi District council is experiencing challenges in providing potable water to Central Kalahari Game reserve (CKGR), council chairperson Mr Thato Tshweneyagae has said.
He told the full council virtual meeting on Tuesday that Xaka borehole, from which the council bowsed CKGR settlements had been damaged by elephants.
The settlements of Molapo, Mothomelo, Metsiamanong and Gugamma were now bowsed from Kaudwane and New Xade.
This was very expensive for the council, as hauling distance had increased, he said. As a temporary measure, the council had requested to equip borehole 11397 at Mothomelo, which belonged to central government.
He regretted that a borehole drilled and equipped at Molapo by Orezone Drilling Botswana had not yielded enough water.
“A request has been forwarded to the respective Ministry to use the same equipment to equip one borehole which has already been drilled by the ministry to service CKGR residents,’’ he said. Ends
