A police office based in Tonota died Tuesday when the vehicle he was driving overturned.

Initial indications are that the officer, who escorting a cash-in-transit vehicle along with another, lost control of his, which veered off the road overturning near Shashe River Bridge.

It had been raining on the day and the particular stretch of road on which the vehicle overturned often gets over an inch of lying surface water, which makes vehicle control difficult. Tonota Station Commander, Superintendent Oteng Ngada said the 51-year-old seargent hailed from Mmadinare.

The other officer who was with him was treated for minor injuries and discharged from Tonota Clinic the same day.

Superintendent Ngada said this was the third fatal accident to happen in the same area in the last three year.

He urged motorists to be vigilant when driving in the area, especially after rains.

His plea to motorists: As the festive season approaches, be responsible, drive safely and soberly. Ends
