Mahalapye Spar Supermarket has donated four 5 000 litre water tanks worth over P10 000 to Mother’s Union organisation.

Handing over the donation on Thursday in Mahalapye, Spar manager Mr Joseph Jankie said Spar Supermarket donated water tanks because they wanted to give out something that the organisation would use for a long period.

He said it had been five years now with the supermarket helping the organisation by giving it food, shade nets and fence amongst others.

Mr Jankie explained that they provided the organisation with seedlings to plough in the garden, adding that they also ploughed for parents whose children were under the care of Mother’s Union.

He advised the organisation to also seek help from other companies and supermarkets to continue helping the orphans and vulnerable children.

Mahalapye Sub District Council chairperson Mr Bantlhasetse Merementsi said when supermarkets like Spar give back to the community, they get motived because government could not afford do this alone.

He said government was trying by all means to reduce the import bill, therefore he urged Mother’s Union organization to produce good quality products and sell them to Spar and other local supermarkets.

Mr Merementsi said Spar should also help other horticulture farmers by providing them with the market to sell their produce.

Meanwhile, Mother’s Union coordinator Ms Lesedi Selogelo said the organisation was providing support and mentorship to orphans and vulnerable children together with their guardians.

She said they were working with Determined Resilient Empowered AIDS- Free Mentored Safe (DREAMS) project to fight the social ills in the society such as gender based violence and teenage pregnancy.

Kgosi Obonetse Kakabale of Botalaote ward in Mahalapye said Spar had set a good example to other companies, adding that companies should help where the need arose.

He urged the organisation to use the gift wisely and with care. BOPA
