Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) received about P360 000 worth ICT equipment towards the upliftment of the college’s Industry Skills Centre which was established in 2014.

All credit goes to Huawei Botswana who decided to add value to the growing needs of local capacity in the field of Industry Standard ICT Training and Solution Provision.

Expressing gratitude for  the donation in Gaborone recently, BAC executive director Ms Serty Leburu said it would add to the growth of the institution’s ICT offering.

“...we are grateful that the equipment will contribute towards development of the required skills and solutions for the industry,” Ms Leburu expounded.

She appealed to other stakeholders to collaborate with the institution in their areas of expertise to contribute towards development of skills among youth.

Ms Leburu explained that since 2014, the centre had offered programmes in the CISCO, Microsoft and SAP Academies and had since graduated 1 300 professionals across the three academies.

Meanwhile, Huawei Botswana vice president Mr Frelimo Kebopetswe said BAC was a significant partner, as the institution had been an active member of the Huawei Academy since 2020.

In addition to the training of lecturers, Mr Kebopetswe stated that over 300 BAC students had received training in Huawei ICT courses and had acquired experience and competencies, which made them competitive within the market.

The Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology Dr Douglas Letsholathebe applauded Huawei Botswana for the gift, saying the initiative was aligned to the government’s digitisation agenda.

“I am pleased to be part of this academy and their contribution to the economy,” Dr Letsholathebe added.

Director for School of Computing and Information Systems at BAC, Dr Galamoyo Male said the support given to BAC especially in the advancement and growth of the ICT offering over the years had resulted in various innovative projects by the students, some of which had been launched and provided solutions to the industry. ends
