Housing appeal on right track
17 Oct 2013
The President’s Housing Appeal committee continues its commitment to solicit assistance from those who are able to build houses for needy members of the society.
Speaking at a handover of one of the five houses in Gabane, committee member, Colonel Duke Masilo said so far the housing appeal was doing well in terms of individuals and companies coming forward and heeding the President’s appeal. The two-bedroomed house, funded by SARGAM Trust at a sum of P100 000 was built for Ms Mathamani Gasekago and her family.
Colonel Masilo said the committee was still appealing to anyone who was able to contribute to the initiative to do so. He said, through the President’s Housing Appeal, 276 houses had been built country wide while 560 were not yet built but the pledges had been made. On one hand, council secretary for Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-district, Mr Milton Keitshokile commended SARGAM Trust for the gesture.
He also appealed to any other people who were willing and able to continue assist in building houses for the needy since there were many people in a similar situation as the Gasekago family in his area.
Mr Keitshokile however said though they had intended to have finished building the five houses in three months, having been given the money in December last year, they did not manage because of some challenges encountered. He noted that one of the major challenges was that some of the beneficiaries had no plots, so they had to start with the process of acquiring land for the beneficiaries first.
Meanwhile, SARGAM Trust director, Mr Manhar Mooney said the money they gave to housing appeal committee was raised through concert by an Indian Music group called Bollywood. He said at the concert, they managed to raise P100 000 which was enough to respond to the President’s appeal. However, Bollywood members were people of different professions under the SARGAM Trust who had music as their hobby in spare time. ENDS
