Judge Tau takes oath of office

Judge Tebogo Tau has been sworn in as Botswana’s first woman president of the Court of Appeal.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony in Gaborone yesterday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi thanked Judge Tau for accepting the responsibility.

“Your ladyship, you will be leading and heading the highest [judicial] office in Botswana,” he said.

Dr Masisi expressed optimism that Judge Tau’s  wealth of judicial experience would greatly benefit the country.

For her part, Judge Tau promised to serve the nation well without fear or favour.

In an interview, she attributed her appointment to hard work and fortitude.Judge Tau said the ability and determination with which she handled court affairs since being appointed a magistrate stood her in good stead.

“My excelling character saw me rising to different positions, from being a magistrate, a registrar until being appointed president of the Court of Appeal,” she said.

Judge Tau encouraged other women to be committed and to work hard to attain positions of power.ENDS
