KDC revises budget priorities

01 Dec 2021

Kweneng District Council has been forced to revise its development project priorities due to budgetary constraints, Kweneng District Council chairperson Mr Motlhophi Leo has said.

Speaking during the opening of the full council session on Monday, Mr Leo said the decision was reached owing to a strain on the budget following the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said this caused over expenditure of P275.5 million against a budget of P260.2 million.

“This has compelled management to evoke drastic measures and freeze all procurement awaiting budget review exercise to determine priorities for the remaining part of the financial year,” he said.

Mr Leo appealed to councillors to share this information with their electorates for them to be up to date with developments in their respective wards.

On a different note, Mr Leo briefed the council on the handover of a clinic in Maboane scheduled for official opening by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi today.

Debswana Jwaneng Mine donated the clinic. The council was also briefed on the P785 million Gamononyane water project awarded to Zhengtai/Dan Joint ventures, which was expected to address shortage of water. ends
