Botswana Cycling Association (BCA) will not award the National Champions Cycling Jerseys at this year’s BCA National Championships scheduled for Rasesa over the weekend.

BCA secretary general, Shimane Serameng, said in an interview that while all the national champions should effectively have national colours, the practice would not be honoured this year due to budgetary constraints.

The National Championship Cycling jersey is usually awarded to the winner and champion of a national event organised by the governing body. National Cycling Championships are organised by each Union Cycliste

Internationale (UCI) member federations such as the BCA and they are held annually.
Serameng said this year’s championships would start with the individual time trial (ITT) on Saturday followed by road race on Sunday.

One of the most anticipated aspects of this year’s National Championships, is to see how traditional team jerseys have been transformed to incorporate national colours, with the jerseys becoming one of a kind custom made piece of attire.

He said the championships were part of their continued efforts to grow the sport of cycling as they put the rider in a good position for consideration when the national team is selected.

Additionally, Serameng said the format of the race was similar to continental and international race events and in line with UCI standards and requirements.

He said the race format would be more of race loops and would propel riders to work hard to reach the finishing line.  Ends
