Extension Gunners supporters breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday afternoon when their team registered its first win of the season.

The 3-2 premier league victory over Morupule Wanderers sent Gunners supporters into a frenzy.

Pako Modikwa’s brace and a composed finish by Dirang Moloi halted a sequence of defeats for Gunners.

The team continued its improvement under new coach, Wame Mokoke.

Gunners clicked upfront, dominated the opposition defence and created several scoring opportunities, but squandered most of them.

Modikwa opened the scoring sheet with a beautiful header from a cross by Finki Mothibi in the 22nd minute.

The goal gave Gunners confidence and Wanderers goalkeeper, Michael Pepukani, pulled off a good save to prevent Kabelo Babusi from extending the lead seven minutes later.

However, Gunners doubled their lead in the 36th minute after Moloi and Thato Bolweleng exchanged passes on the edge of Wanderers penalty area and the latter sent Modikwa clear and he scored.

Gunners’ goalkeeper, Gofaone Tapologo, pulled off two saves from Comfort Dikupa and Thabiso Bante to preserve the two goal cushion.

Modikwa then wasted a glorious opportunity to complete a hat trick on stroke of half-time by blazing a shot over the bar after another good pass from Bolweleng.

In the second half, Odirile Lekoba, Moloi, Babusi and substitute, Lesego Lubinda squandered easy chances to extend Gunners lead.

The missed chances nearly came back to haunt Gunners as Wanderers took control of the match after the introduction of Tumelo Mazebedi, Pako Gaofose, Boipelo Oaitse, Quinton Mokoka and Kevin Bulala midway through the second half.

They scored two quick goals through Gaofose and Dikupa in the 72nd and 74th minutes to level matters.  

Agrippa Mukambi wasted a glorious opportunity to give Wanderers the lead soon after.

However, Wanderers centre backs, Leteng Legopelo and Keabetswe Matote switched off at the back and Moloi  coolly restored Gunners’ lead in the 77th minute. Ends
