Botswana Post ups game

Botswana Post has shown its commitment to social responsibility by revamping and building new post offices across the country. Transport and communications minister, Mr Thulagano Segokgo said this when officially opening the revamped Maun Post Office on November 26. 

Mr Segokgo said the revamped office would now offer improved service to customers. He commended Botswana Post for its strategic initiatives that encompassed revamping and building of Post Offices across the country without assistance from the government. 

Mr Segokgo observed that Botswana Post chose to revamp at least 10 Post Offices. 

He said revamping of Maun Post office, was a welcome development for Maun community as the village was a tourism hub.

 The minister said by introducing the first Virtual Teller Machine (VTM) - the first of its kind in Africa - at the post office, Botswana Post had acceded to the President’s Reset Agenda principle of digitalisation. 

He said the VTM, would help expand access to postal services and products across the country at low costs, as it would be introduced in selected post offices as well. Botswana Post Chief Executive Officer, Mr Cornelius Ramatlhakwane said Botswana Post set aside P7 million to revamp at least 10 post offices and they succeeded. 

He said their aim was to ensure their customers received high standard services from the postal services provider. 

He said Botswana Post needed to commercialise without losing its social obligation, and therefore had to find smart ways of serve its clients. 

Explaining how the VTM worked, he said it provided all the services one could find in a physical office. 

Mr Ramatlhakwane said that the VTM had unique features as opposed to automated telleerr machines it also released coins and so user friendly it could be used by old people. 

Mr Ramatlhakwane also expressed appreciation to that Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) which he said had pledged P2.5 million for construction of new post offices in rural areas. ends
