Network failure cause of late payments

25 Nov 2021

There are incidences where Ipelegeng beneficiaries, particularly in remote settlements, are sometimes paid late.

Answering a parliamentary question this week, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele said it was as a result of network failure on the side of the contracted service provider, Botswana Postal Services.

He said his ministry, through the Kgalagadi District Council, had engaged Botswana Postal Services on the matter, adding that he was optimistic that the situation would be addressed.

He also said despite the slight challenges alluded, payment through Botswana Postal Services had so far proven to be the most preferred method, especially for beneficiaries who were in remote areas.

He explained that the organisation had requisite resources to access beneficiaries at their localities.

He said his ministry, through local authorities, continued to use various methods of payment such as electronic or digital mobile phone money transfers, depending on their suitability for the locality.

Kgalagadi North MP, Ms Talita Monnakgotla had asked the minister to state why Ipelegeng beneficiaries got their payment late and why the process of paying them could not be re-considered. Ends
