Legends 81, a group of individuals born in 1981, celebrated 40 years by donating 137 pair of shoes and 192 pair of socks to Xanagas Primary School in Ghanzi District.

Speaking at an event to hand over the donation recently, Ghanzi South MP, Mr Motsamai Motsamai applauded the group for putting the needs of others before their own.

He said pupils would no longer worry about their need and would be motivated to perform better at school.

School head, Ms Keneilwe Sephiri, said the donation would help shape learners future.

“The gesture has warmed the heart of the pupils and would change their life forever,” she said.

Xanagas primary has an enrolment of 249, with over 200 being boarders.

Legends 81 chairperson, Mr Vazengani Kandjou, stated that they found it befitting to celebrate their 40th year with Xanagas primary pupils because they encountered challenges similar to those they experienced in the past.

Mr Kandjou stated that he knew what it was like to travel more than 4km barefooted to school, an experience he said could jeopardise one’s future.

‘’It is not about us, it is about them. It is what they can be tomorrow. They are future leaders,” Mr Kandjou said, adding that they would be glad to adopt the school.

He said the donation was made possible through support from the business entities such as GFS hardware whose representative, Ms Ms Edith Bosch stated that she did her Standard One at the same school in 1981 and was honoured to assist. ENDS
