WASBO calls for increased women participation
22 Nov 2021
Plans are underway for Women and Sports Botswana (WASBO) to engage national federations on increased participation of women in leadership level and to adequately train them.
WASBO Gaborone region secretary, Celia Chikaonda, said this at the organisation’s annual general assembly on Saturday.
She said efforts were also being made to reach out to communities and the Botswana National Sport Commission affiliates.
Chikaonda said Gaborone WASBO regional structure executive was committed to covering women in sport, attracting male allies to promote woman in sport, provide women with a platform to echo their sentiments and tell their stories.
She said their mission was also to ensure that the youth were capacitated into aspiring sport leaders who excelled at all levels as well as improving their confidence and self-esteem.
On other issues, Chikaonda said the COVID-19 pandemic had halted sport since March last year.
“This unforeseen situation brought about an abrupt pause to our planning and much ground was lost. It sadly seems that the enthusiasm and commitment of the Gaborone team was also dampened, with only three of the five members attending, both in the early stages, the physical and later virtual meetings, yet again with no apologies,” she lamented.
