A dead body of a 14-year-old boy was recovered from Madikwe River by Mmathubudukwane Police Sunday morning following a drowning incident.
Mmathubudukwane Station Commander Superintendent Mathews Gatang said in an interview that the boy who recently completed his Primary School Leaving Examination was recovered by scuba-divers with no initial evidence of foul play or self-harm after a search that started on Saturday evening.
Supt. Gatang said the police received the report from the boy’s parents Saturday afternoon around 4pm after his companions reported that he had drowned.
“We called the search warrant from Saturday evening and the body was retrieved by the scuba divers on Sunday morning. We then ferried the body to Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital in Mochudi where he was certified dead,” he stated.
It is reported that the deceased and four others were swimming in the river and unfortunately one drowned after the bottle he had used to support his waist slipped off.
Apparently the five were using four empty two litre empty water bottles to help them float, supporting their waist and armpits.
The parents of the deceased have since received the body. BOPA
