Digitalisation magic wand for economic transformation

14 Nov 2021

Digitalisation has become the magic wand for moving the country from middle to high-income status.

It will improve the way people do things and grow Botswana’s economy, tertiary education, research, science and technology minister Dr Douglas Letsholathebe said in an interview in France recently.

He noted  that most countries had moved towards digitalisation, which had proved capable of growing economies as well as creating employment.

Pointing out that most young people had access to smart-phones and Internet, Dr Letsholathebe said they could use both for software development, especially with the village Internet connectivity project currently being implemented.

He said it was time Botswana youth changed their mindset and took advantage of available digitalisation opportunities.

For his part, chairperson of UNESCO in Botswana, Kgosi Puso Gaborone said Botswana attended last week’s 41st UNESCO general conference with the hope that the country would get a  seat on the executive board which Botswana’s ambassador to France Mr Mustaq Moorad would occupy. Ends
