Police fatally shoot robbery suspect

Two Batswana men were killed and two others seriously injured following an exchange of fire with members of the Botswana Police Service during a robbery of a liquor outlet in Taung near Ramotswa on Friday evening.
A press release from Botswana Police indicates that the four gunmen attacked employees of the liquor outlet, ordered them to lie down before making away with an undisclosed amount of cash and some goods.
The release states that the quartet, later exchanged fire with the police who had just arrived at the scene to intervene.
It says the other two seriously injured suspects had been hospitalized and currently under police escort.
The release further states that the four men were found in possession of three handguns, cash, goods, and a motor vehicle suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence.
The vehicle had been impounded pending further investigations, says the release.
Members of the public, especially the business community are therefore urged to utilise modern banking services and avoid keeping large sums of money at their and homes.
This, states the release had over the years attracted the attention of criminals who usually storm their places of residence and attack them.
Furthermore, the police encourage the public to have confidence on the emergency number 999 and make use of it to report any form of crime.
The emergency number has been reconfigured to allow the police too effectively and efficiently responds to crime reports,” says the release. ENDS
