13 Nov 2021
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has wellcomed the prospective agreement to be signed between Haute College of Jewellery, based in Paris, France, and Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology in Oodi, Botswana, saying the partnership should be life-long since both institutions brought with them valuable attributes.
Speaking during his tour of tHaute College, President Masisi said Botswana brought with it valuables and the best stone in the world being diamonds while Haute College was one of the best schools in jewellery manufacturing and design.
President Masisi said the prospective partnership revival must mutually benefit both schools, adding that the such arrangement should extend to the number of students from Botswana and France who will be admitted to both schools respectively.
Further, the President said Botswana had relations with some French global brands who aquired Botswana diamonds for Jewellery-making, noting Botswana too had the best jewellery designers and unique culture, which if given a chance, would make it to international markets through jellewery design.
For his part, Haute college consultant, Mr Corentin Ouideau expressed appreciation for the efforts made towards reviving the relations they used to have with Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology.
He emphasised the need to come up with guidelines and frameworks that would be beneficial to both teams. Houte college was founded in 1867. It trains nearly 650 students annually.
Oodi college opened its doors in 2012 with a mandate to drive economic diversification and promote entrepreneurship leading to poverty alleviation. ENDS
