Lightning victim to be buried tomorrow

A 14-year-old form-one female student of Shanganani Junior Secondary School in Tsamaya who was struck and killed by lightning on Tuesday will be buried on Saturday. 

The deceased, Loago David, the first twin to Ms Elizabeth David of Dam ward in Tsamaya was killed by a bolt of lightning when she and her twin sister, Boago were walking home from school amid a ravaging storm. Boago has since been treated for shock and is recovering at home.

“We are hoping that she will eventually recover even though she has suffered great shock,” said Boago’s aunt, Ms Jane David. 

Narrating the events surrounding the incident, Pastor Thato Joshua of Real Apostolic Church said the incident happened around 1500 hrs on that fateful day. 

He said a thunderstorm swept through the village and all of a sudden, there was a terrifying thunderbolt. 

“Immediately after the hail storm stopped, the mother to the deceased, Ms Elizabeth David came running to my house and informed me that she had received information that one of her twin-girls has been struck by lightning. 

Upon rushing to the scene Pastor Joshua and company found Loago lying motionless and took her to the hospital where the doctor certified her dead. 

The mother, Ms Elizabeth David said the deceased and her remaining twin were gifted as they both obtained A pass in their Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE). 

She explained that they continued to do very well at junior secondary school with the deceased obtaining A pass with 58 points in term one whilst Boago also obtained an A pass with 55 points. 

Meanwhile, Kgosi Zenzo Letsholathebe of Tsamaya said the incident had sent shock waves among the community because it is the first of its kind in Tsamaya. 

“We are still shocked by the incident,” said Kgosi Letsholathebe, who immediately visited the family to convey a message of condolences, upon hearing about the incident. 

He said he also visited the school where he found teachers and students traumatised because of the incident. 

He said the school’s Guidance and Counselling department were doing a sterling counseling the students and other members of the school community. 

He explained that the deceased was a disciplined student who took her studies seriously. ends
