SONA this afternoon
07 Nov 2021
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi will this afternoon deliver his annual State of the Nation Address (SONA), which also marks the opening of the 1st meeting of the 3rd session of the 12th Parliament, effectively setting government’s legislative agenda.
The SONA affords the President as the head of state and supreme commander of the armed forces, opportunity to give government's reflections on the country's political, economic and social trajectory.
His message is expected to revolve around his RESET agenda.
The agenda, which President Masisi announced in May, outlines a raft of new people-centric priorities.
He is expected to highlight some of its milestones, and what government is doing further to ensure that people remain central as beneficiaries of the outcomes produced by its implementation.
This year’s event has been scaled down greatly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Unlike in previous years where top government officials and members of the public could listen to the speech from a huge marquee tent erected on Parliament gardens, this time they will either listen to or watch the President from radio, television and social networks.
These include, Botswana Television (BTV), Radio Botswana 1 and 2, DailyNews and BWgovernment.
Live feed via BTV will also be streamed to local media outlets including Mmegi, Sunday Standard, Weekend Post, Access TV, The Voice and the Argus Online. BOPA
