Lobatse school staff show compassion support to needy girls

03 Nov 2021

Staff from the Lobatse Senior Secondary School’s special education unit have procured sanitary towels for the school’s needy pupils.

The package of three boxes, containing approximately 75 packets of 10 sanitary towels each, was handed over to the school’s Guidance and Counselling office on Monday November 1.

Speaking during the hand over ceremony, a representative of the special education unit, Ms Lebang Keipeile, explained that the unit staff agreed to buy sanitary towels to help vulnerable learners at the school as lack of sanitary towels could leave school girls in a vulnerable position.

Ms Keipeile said the staff contributed money to buy the sanitary towels, adding that they hoped to make a similar donation next year as they wanted to make it an annual event.

The school’s head of guidance and counselling department, Ms Ellen Masilonyane said the donation came at an opportune time when the school was facing a challenge of shortage of resources.

She commended the special education unit staff for finding it appropriate to lend a helping hand.

“This donation shows the love in your hearts, since you decided to share what you have with others,” Ms Masilonyane said.

The school’s guidance and counselling senior teacher, Mr Onkabetse Mangwa said their office often struggled to meet the demand for sanitary towels.

Mr Mangwa said they had a population of around 700 girls at the school and everyday girls came to their office asking for sanitary towels, sometimes because they could not afford to buy for themselves, while sometimes it was because of emergency.

“Therefore, this kind of assistance would go a long way in helping us,” he said. ENDS
