06 Sep 2021

Preparations for the COSAFA women’s championship are in full swing.

The senior women’s football team coach, Gaoletlhoo Nkutlwisang, said in an interview that there was need for the team to prepare vigorously    for the tournament billed for South Africa.

She said it would be ideal for the team to stay longer in the camp and engage in friendly games, adding that she was taking solace from the fact that some foreign-based players were joining the team.

The coach said the participation of Double Action in the just ended COSAFA women’s champions’ league would also boost the team’s performance.

“I think this time around we will do better. Players also know what is at stake in this tournament, so let us see how it will go,” Nkutlwisang said.

Botswana will be in Group B with South Sudan, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania.

Botswana will play against South Sudan a day before independence.

Their next game would be against Tanzania on October 2 and they take on Zimbabwe two days later.

Nkutlwisang acknowledged that Botswana was in tricky group, adding that the game against South Sudan was a must win in order to boost the team’s confidence.

Furthermore, she said Botswana understood Zimbabwe’s style of aggressive play.

Meanwhile, the COSAFA website says this year’s edition will have Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan as guests nations.

It says the tournament will be played under strict COVID-19 protocols, with no spectators allowed. Ends
