06 Sep 2021
Parliament has leant that Kajaja, Shaikarawe and Xhaoga schools development project has been delayed as a result of tender litigations.
Answering a question in Parliament on Friday, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said construction was scheduled to start by first week of October this year and anticipated to be completed within 40 weeks.
In addition, Mr Modukanele said permanent structures of one by two classroom block and two 2½ houses had been constructed at Xhaoga, through constituency community projects (CCP).
He said funds permitting, arrangements would be made to continue upgrading the schools in phases through other government programmes, including Ipelegeng. Also, he said subject to resource availability, Shaikarawe Primary School would be considered in the next plan period alongside other schools.
Mr Modukanele stated that the ministry, through North West District Council, had prioritised to construct additional facilities under Backlog Eradication Programme during 2018/19 financial year at Kajaja Primary School.
Okavango MP, Mr Kenny Kapinga, had asked for an update on when Kajaja, Shaikarawe and Xhaoga residents should expect to be provided with proper schools made of durable materials including the necessary utilities conducive to an envisaged knowledge-based economy. ENDS
