Ministry aware of CTO fuel shortage in Ghanzi
06 Sep 2021
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo, says the ministry is aware of a perennial shortage of fuel for government vehicles at the Central Transport Organisation (CTO) in Ghanzi.
Mr Segokgo said this emanated from shortage of reserve tanks triggered by suspected fuel leakage in a 23 000-litre diesel tank.
He said usage of the tank had to be stopped while awaiting necessary tests to confirm the suspected leakage.
The leakage, he said, could affect the Ghanzi water table if not addressed quickly.
Therefore, an invitation to tender, to assess the extent of contamination and carry out the necessary rehabilitation, was crafted in collaboration with the Ghanzi environment office and awaiting securing of funding.
Consequently, Mr Segokgo stated that only one 14 000-litre diesel tank was left to cater for the district against the preferred diesel capacity of 37 000 litres.
The minister further said the CTO had procured an above-ground diesel tank as a matter of urgency to address the shortage of diesel in order to upgrade the Ghanzi fuel station.
Ghanzi North MP, Mr John Thiite had asked the minister if he was aware of perennial shortage of fuel for government vehicles at the Ghanzi CTO because of shortage of reserve tanks. Ends
