03 Sep 2021

Boteti Sub-district councillors have been informed that P20 million will be spent on 31 Constituency Community Development Programme projects proposed for the 2019/20 financial year.

Addressing a council session recently, principal economic planner, Ms Omponye Motlogelwa said 17 of the 31 projects were planned for Boteti East and the rest for Boteti West.

On project status, Ms Motlogelwa said awarding of the Mmatshumo cooperative shop tender was before the appeals board while construction of Mashulae kgotla shelter was delayed by a dispute over the allocated plot. Ms Motlogelwa said a Motopi LA2 house tender had been awarded but commencement of the project was halted by queries from losing bidders.

Councillors were also informed that work on the bill of quantities for Mopipi milling projects was ongoing. She said 10 other projects in the two constituencies were at different stages of implementation. Turning to the 2018/19 financial year, Ms Motlogelwa said the sub-district was allocated P20 million to implement 33 projects, 17 in Boteti East and 16 in Boteti West.

The projects included construction of Khwee cooperative structure and Mmatshumo Postal Agency, both currently at 98 per cent completion stage.

Commenting, Kedia/Mokobaxane councillor, Mr Goratwamang Gosalamang expressed concern that Mokobaxane projects were awarded to one company.

Another councillor, Mr Kemoiponetse Kelatlhegile for Mmea/Mokubilo, said he was worried by the contractor’s failure to pay people who were engaged in the construction of Makgaba kgotla shelter. Mr Otsile Mmatlakgomo, a nominated councillor, complained about the low capacity of Boteti clinics maternity wards.

He said available constituency development funds should cater for expansion of maternity wards across the sub-district.

Councillor Ketshwereng Galeragwe for Letlhakane East requested an update on Mashulae kgotla shelter project.

Senior assistant council secretary, Mr Christopher Maramba assured councillors that the project would commence once the land dispute was resolved.

Responding to another comment, Ms Motlogelwa said the contractor engaged to undertake Mokobaxane projects was awarded the works through normal Local Authorities Procurement Asset Disposal procedure. ends
