Health facilities share ambulances

02 Sep 2021

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Edwin Dikoloti has acknowledged that ambulances are clustered and shared among facilities.

Dr Dikoloti said ideally, each facility should have an ambulance, but the ministry was unable to meet the requirement due to budgetary constraints.

Currently, he said Shoshong Constituency had three ambulances, a Land Cruiser and a Nissan van, which were used as ambulances as well as a utility vehicle.

“My ministry issued an additional ambulance and utility vehicle to Shoshong Constituency to capacitate it for provision of services at mobile stops during the month of August this year,” he said.

Parliament also heard that there were currently no plans to construct a facility in the Sandveld farms in the eleventh National development Plan.

“However, my ministry will continue to engage with farm owners to allow access into the farms for provision of services on outreach basis,” he added.

The minister was responding to Shoshong MP, Mr Aubrey Lesaso who wanted to know the number of ambulances planned for the constituency owing to its vastness.

Mr Lesaso also wanted to know if the ministry would provide a mobile clinic to cater for people in the Sandveld farms.

He further asked if the ministry would also consider buying some of land in one of the farms to build a health facility to cater for people living in the farms. ENDS
