No dismissal over COVID-19 - Komoki
01 Sep 2021
The Ministry of Employment, Labour, Productivity and Skills Development says it has not received any reports of supervisors instructing employees to continue working even when they have tested positive for COVID-19.
In an interview recently, the Acting Commissioner of Labour, Mr Sylvester Komoki said they had also not received any complaints of dismissal from work resulting from absence due to being ill from COVID-19.
Mr Komoki however urged employees who found themselves forced to continue working even after they tested positive for COVID-19 or who were dismissed from work because they could not work as a result of testing positive for COVID-19, to refer their disputes to labour offices countrywide for mediation.
He said the State of Emergency regulations clearly stated that there should be no retrenchments and dismissals due to COVID-19. Mr Komoki also advised employees to follow the laid down COVID-19 protocols and report any deviations to the authorities.
He advised supervisors and employees to ensure that COVID-19 protocols were adhered to. ends
