Poor execution blamable on delayed disbursement

01 Sep 2021

Poor project execution in the Boteti Sub-district has been blamed partly on delays in disbursement of funds.

Briefing the sub-council in Letlhakane recently, the sub district’s Ipelegeng Programme coordinator, Mr Kagiso Laba stated that 60 per cent of the total approved funds was disbursed to the sub-district mid-August.

He said lack of water in some areas as well as frequent vehicle breakdowns also posed challenges to project implementation.

Due to the challenges,  26 maintenance and 45 construction spillover projects from the past two financial years would only get funding this year under the P19 million Ipelegeng budget.

Mr Laba said out of the 26 maintenance projects, four had been completed, three were at 76 to 99 per cent, five at 26 to 50 per cent while the rest were between  1  and 25 per cent completion.

On construction projects, he said 14 had been completed, two were between 76 and 99 per cent complete, four were at 51-75 per cent, another 14 stood at 26 to 50 per cent while 11 were up to 25 per cent. Apart from the 71 spillover projects, the sub-district would implement 75 others related to environmental upkeep encompassing bush clearing, cleaning of roads, litter picking and grass cutting.

Giving the overall picture, Mr Laba said 25 projects were between one to 25 per cent, 94 at 26-50 per cent, four at 51-75 per cent, five at 76-99 per cent while 18 had been completed. Councillors heard that the sub-district was allocated a monthly employment quota with 2 870 benefitting last month. Cumulatively, 14 339 were employed since the beginning of the current financial year, he said.

The number included 10 029 women and 4310 males, with 5204 of the total number being youth.

Mr Laba also updated councillors on the primary school cooking programme. ends
