BoMRA registers 615 side effects post vaccination

Botswana Medicines Regulation Authority (BoMRA) has received a total of 615 adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs) beginning August 26, Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe has said.

Responding to a question in Parliament on August 30, Mr Lelatisitswe said the adverse events included those who had received the first dose and those who had received both first and second doses.

He said BoMRA had, to date, also received 526 minor AEFIs and 89 serious AEFIs which included those who had received the first dose and those who had received both doses.

“All those who have experienced side effects are attended to within the health facilities which are reasonably accessible,” he said.

Further, Mr Lelatisitswe said a total of 304 830 people had been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 while 358 375 people had received the first dose.

Mahalapye West MP, Dr David Tshere has asked the minister to update Parliament on any adverse effects since the COVID-19 vaccination progamme began. ENDS
