project progress slow - Chairperson
26 Aug 2021
Tutume Sub-District Council chairperson, Mr Anthony Chibane has said there is need to come up with strategies to speed up project implementation across the sub district. He was speaking during the ongoing full council session in Tutume on Tuesday.
Mr Chibane said this against revelations the sub district council was said to be lagging behind in implementation of projects.
He said for two consecutive years, the sub district had not been funded for Constituency Community Programme (CCP), which he stated should give them room to expedite and complete all the projects that were lagging behind. He said of the 64 approved CCP projects for the 2018/2019 financial year, 59 were complete, while two were yet to start and the other two contracts were terminated mid-way. The chairman said for 2019/2020, 60 projects were approved with 39 complete, five in progress, while 16 were yet to start.
He said this called for introspection and delivery if they wanted the community to continue trusting and believing in them. He said the overall progress stood at 71 per cent after three years, and added this was a disservice to the public.
On other issues, the chairman informed the meeting that the construction of the 2020/2021 Rural Area Development Programme (RADP) houses commenced mid-April this year. He said the package consisted of 21 houses at a budget of P2 310 000.00. Progress was promising as three had already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries.
“We anticipate that the remaining 18 houses will be completed and handed over,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Chibane said the recurrent budget for this financial year was P127 799 450.00. The Sub-Distrit Council had already received its Revenue Support Grant amounting to P61 905 555.00.
He added that as at July, total expenditure stood at P43 533 795.41.
He called for intensified revenue collection from own sources as they had only managed to collect P501 474.57, which translated to only 12.57 per cent. Ends
