Mahalapye records 146 COVID-19 associated deaths

Mahalapye Sub-District has registered a cumulative 146 COVID-19 related deaths, as at August 22.
This was revealed on Tuesday, by Mahalapye District Health Management Team (DHMT) coordinator, Ms Thandie Kgosiesele when briefing the on-going sub-district council meeting on the COVID-19 situation in the district.
“We are continuing to register an increase in the number of COVID-19 associated deaths and on average we are recording three deaths per week, with Mahalapye registering a cumulative number of 85 deaths out of the 146 deaths recorded in the sub-district,” she said.
Ms Kgosiesele said Mahalapye Sub-District, had also registered a cumulative 9 573 COVID-19 positive cases, of which 8 681 were recoveries and 746 active cases.
Of the 746 active cases, she said 51 were under facility isolation and 695 on home isolation.
Giving an update on the roll out of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to teachers and support staff in the sub-district, Ms Kgosiesele said the DHMT had received a list of 3 202 people from the regional education office. Of the 3 202, she said 1 503 were teachers and 1 272 support staff.
Ms Kgosiesele said of these 2 785 were vaccinated as at August 23 with 417 still to follow.
She said the remaining the remaining vaccine would be used on front liners and members of the public.
Ms Kgosiesele expressed concern that some people delayed vaccination because they preferred a certain COVID-19 vaccine. Ends
