24 Aug 2021

In an effort to ensure continuous safety, Botswana Railways (BR) management recently conducted a motor trolley inspection on the railway line section between Mahalapye and Palapye.

Speaking in an interview afterwards, BR acting chief executive officer, Ms Chelesele Malele said the two-hour inspection formed part of ongoing efforts to improve safety within the corporation.

“We had a successful motor trolley inspection and this is something we intend to do constantly, just to check the railway line safety,” she said.

BR board deputy chairperson, Mr Ogone Mothooagae expressed elation at the successful completion of the inspection.

“As the board we have keen interest in ensuring safety across the entire railway line for safe transportation and delivery of goods and services within the requisite time. So, our intention is to see it for ourselves that safety is being adhered to, for seamless movement of trains,” he said.

BR Safety and Operations Sub-Committee chairperson, Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi said the intention was to conduct regular, unannounced motor trolley inspections of the railway line.

“We intend to conduct these spot checks on a regular basis, as it will in a way also help to reinforce compliance and encourage all BR employees, at all levels, to take issues of safety seriously,” said Mr Molebatsi. Ends
