Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has completed electrification of three boreholes at Kunyere well field- near Nxaraga in the Ngami region.

Maun Administration Authority chairperson (MAA), Mr Vepaune Moreti, said this when opening a council meeting in Maun on Monday.

Mr Moreti said completion of the P4.5 million project led to a reliable source of power as compared to the diesel operated generators, which experienced frequent breakdowns.

Mr Moreti said WUC had also installed actuators at Sexaxa and Shashe well fields to enhance effectiveness of the borehole, adding that the actuators enabled automatic operation of boreholes even after power outages.

However, he said they were still grappling with challenges of water shortage in villages in the outskirts of Maun such as Shorobe.

The villages, he said, experienced water shortage due to water quantity and quality issues.

Mr Moreti nonetheless said the villages were assisted through bowsing to meet their water demands.

He said the corporation still experienced setbacks as a result of vandalism of water infrastructures by wild animals and farmers in some areas.

Mr Moreti also said WUC still had challenges of non-payment of water bills.

He said the corporation had about P50 million debt in its service centre for the Maun area and he appealed to the public to pay their debts. Ends
