Tertiary sponsorship applications open
23 Aug 2021
The Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology has activated tertiary education sponsorship application cycle with effect from August 23 until September 12.
Briefing the media in Gaborone yesterday, minister Dr Douglas Letsholathebe said the sponsorship was open for new and continuing students as well as reinstatement and progression.
He explained that 36 points had been set as the cutoff point for accessing the sponsorship and 31 for special educational needs as well as remote area dwellers.
Further explaining that application would be done electronically through a link still to be advertised, Dr Letsholathebe said students had been batched to avoid overcrowding the system.
On why the application process, which usually takes place in April, was delayed, Dr Letsholathebe blamed the delay on shortage of funds.
He said while the budget was insufficient for those with 44 points, it also had to cater for aviation students in South Africa and Namibia.
The minister urged students to choose the right institution and course and further encouraged them to consider Technical and Vocational Education Training institutions.
For her part, Director of Tertiary Education Funding Ms Neo Sebolao encouraged parents to assist children especially in selecting institution and course.
She also stressed the need for institutions to ensure quality education and offer accredited courses.
Students were encouraged to study hard and complete their programmes on time. Ends
