BDF hands over vegetable garden

23 Aug 2021

Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Eastern Military Garrison in Selebi Phikwe has cultivated a vegetable garden for  Botshabelo Primary School.

The two government organisations have a relationship that dates back some years ago and the project would only enhance that.

Handing over the project on Friday, Eastern Military Garrison’s Lt Col. Ntungamili Gobagoba said the BDF had decided to cultivate a vegetable garden for the school rather than providing them with vegetables whenever they made a request. This, Lt Col. Gobagoba said would not only be a source of vegetables but also serve as a teaching aid for learners and teachers.

He said the BDF’s mandate was not only to provide security to the nation but to also ensure the nation lived dignified lives as well as contributing positively to education and other sectors of the economy.

He said learners and teachers as part of the project, were taken on board throughout the process so that they might expand it in future.

He appreciated team work by BDF members, to deliver the project successfully and for further donating fruit trees.

The school head, Ms Chakulamba Magwegwe said the garden would help improve the school’s academic performance more so that it had a record outstanding performance  in Agriculture.

She said Botshabelo Primary School attained 100 per cent ABC in the 2019 PSLE and continued to do well to date, an achievement made possible by teachers, learners and stakeholders such as the BDF.

Ms Magwegwe said learners would put theory into practice, something she explained that would benefit them post their studies.

Acting deputy school head, Mr Moemedi Mosane learners from less privileged families would be allowed to harvest produce to take home.

Mr Mosane appealed to BDF to also work with the school in sports, and unearth talent through Re ba Bona Ha programme. Ends
