A total of 12 villages in Okavango Sub-district have benefited from a donation by KK Motshidisi Foundation’s cycling initiative.

The donation included thermometres, sanitisers and masks.

The KK Motshidisi Foundation chairperson, Mr Kitso Motshidisi, said in Tsau on Friday that the foundation cycled for charity to assist villages in the sub-district that faced challenges of lack of amenities.

As such, he said 12 cyclists and four supportive staff volunteered to embark on the initiative.

The four days ride started on August 16 to 20.

Mr Motshidisi said KK Foundation sought assistance from different organisations to realise its dream.

He said many sponsors came on board and donated masks, thermometers and sanitisers, which were in turn donated to the villages.

He said donations from different sponsors amounted to about P200 000 which was mainly in kind including the crew’s fuel and food.

The cyclists, he said had been donating to the villages of Okavango in the past three years and had donated about 40 wheel chairs last year.

He said since the country was currently grappling with COVID-19, KK Foundation saw the need to donate items that can be used to fight the spread of COVID-19.

Mr Motshidisi noted that their donation was welcomed with warm hearts in different villages they visited such as Ngarange, Sekondoboro, Shakawe and Etsha villages.

“Some people in those areas are disadvantaged. Some did not have masks and used items such as handkerchiefs,” he said.

Dr Khumo Mapitse from Pula Medical Aid Fund, who were the main sponsors, said the medical scheme supported the initiative since it echoed their vision therefore saw the need to assist people in the Okavango area.

Dr Mapitse said the medical aid scheme intended to provide both primary health and curative health to its clients.

In his remarks, Kgosi Gaetimelwe Keathotswe of Tsau thanked KK Foundation for a noble initiative of helping the needy communities.

The donation to Tsau included a 20 litre sanitiser, hand sanitisers, thermometres and 2 500 masks. Ends
