School staff priority for vaccination

22 Aug 2021

Mahalapye Sub-district Health Management Team (DHMT) resumed COVID-19 vaccination exercise Thursday after receiving 1 194 vials of five doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccine and priority will be given to school communities.

This was confirmed in an interview by the DHMT coordinator, Ms Thandie Kgosiesele who explained that ‘during this vaccination period priority will be given to school communities in the sub-district, being teachers and non-teaching staff.’

Mahalapye DHMT, Ms Kgosiesele said, had set up temporary vaccination sites in schools specifically for teachers and non-teaching staff. She explained that the sites were also meant to reduce congestion and better management in identifying population of schools.

However, she noted that vaccination exercise in Sefhare and Shoshong catchments began August 20.

Additionally, Ms Kgosiesele said continuation of the vaccination exercise for those 45 years and above would begin on August 23.

“Furthermore, the public is advised that the category that is receiving vaccine is the 45 years and above and only those who meet the above criteria will be expected to go to their vaccination sites on dates that would have been communicated,” she said.

Ms Kgosiesele said the second dose of the AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines were ongoing for those who were due for their second jab.

She urged members of the school communities to return to their respective areas of work as advised, for easy administration of vaccine and also to avoid inconveniences.

She also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with health authorities during the vaccination period for a smooth and successful exercise. ENDS
