Gaborone City Council warns of fraudsters
19 Aug 2021
Members of the public have been cautioned to be on the lookout for fraudsters claiming to be council officials.
Gaborone City Council public relation officer, Ms Segametsi Kebonang said in an interview, Wednesday that some fraudsters pretending to be council officials were selling fake tenders and swindling people of their cash.
Recently, she said, a fake tender titled GCC: 07/S&CD/2021 – 2022 purported to be for the supply and delivery of food hampers to various families in Old Naledi and Gaborone West had been circulating. She said such a tender was not issued by the council.
Ms Kebonang explained that all GCC tenders and procurements were advertised in the Government Gazette and as such it was important for business operators to check all GCC tender advertisements in the Government Gazette for verification.
She also highlighted that the signing of tender contracts was only done at the Office of the Town Clerk. Therefore, she said signing at any other office should be treated with suspicion.
Meanwhile Ms Kebonang encouraged those that had been swindled of cash on any false or fake tender to visit the council offices, or report to the nearest Police station, saying that could assist in apprehending the fraudsters. BOPA
