COSAFA draw places Botswana in Group B

COSAFA Women’s Championship draw conducted in South Africa on Thursday August 12 has put Botswana in Group B.

The championships will be staged in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa from September 15 to 26.

Group B is made up of Zimbabwe and two guests nations being Tanzania and South Sudan.

Group A has South Africa, Angola, Malawi and Mozambique, while Group C consists of Zambia, Namibia, eSwatini and Uganda.

Botswana coach, Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang, said in an interview that she was happy with the draw ap.

She said although Botswana had not been playing football, the team would go to the competition with a positive mind, adding that few players were playing football outside the country.

She further said the Double Action participation in the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA qualifier from August 26 to September 4 would bolster his squad.

Nkutlwisang said their mission would be to go through to the semi-finals, adding that they had already played against some of the teams and knew their style of play.

Meanwhile, a press release from Botswana Football Association says this year’s competition comes a month before start of the qualifiers for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations scheduled.

Therefore, the championships will also provide teams with a chance to fine-tune their plans to reach the continental showpiece.

The release states that the Women’s Cup of Nations will supply African representatives for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. bopa
