Maranatha Academy of Excellence has donated clothes and shoes to the Red Cross Society in Kanye.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony on Friday, the school principal, Mr Tapar Wachi said as a private education entity, the institution had a corporate responsibility to assist the community within which it operated.
He noted that the donations, from the school and parents, were a response to the request made by the Red Cross Society.
“It is our corporate responsibility to help our communities because education goes beyond the classroom walls. As a private school we acknowledge that there are people who are less advantaged than us, who are struggling to make ends meet and therefore we stepped in to help,” he said.
He noted that the donations would go a long way in cushioning disadvantaged people against harsh living conditions and extreme weather.
He said they would continue to do their part in uplifting lives and making a difference.
Giving an overview of the donations, lower primary coordinator, Ms Margaret Mupanzi noted that one of their school’s values was to train learners to be compassionate and loving, as well as to grow spiritually.
She said the positive response by the school community indicated that they were living such value and learners would continue to grow spiritually.
“Besides academics, as Maranatha we believe in training our learners to be loving and compassionate towards fellow human beings. Therefore, these donations show that we are in the right direction that aligns with our value as a learning institution,” she explained.
Kanye branch Red Cross programmes officer, Ms Tebogo Seitiso commended Maranatha community for their contribution in uplifting the lives of disadvantaged people.
She noted that the organisation had children whose ages ranged between five and 18 years with various needs under its care.
“Taking care of these children needs collaborative efforts, and therefore we applaud Maranatha Academy of Excellence for such a contribution,” she said.
She assured them that the clothes would be taken care of.
She further called on various fields to also contribute their expertise and skills at the Red Cross in efforts to mould well-rounded citizens. ENDS
