Selebi Phikwe Town Council has three fire engines
15 Aug 2021
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule, says Selebi Phikwe Town Council has three fire engines.
Mr Pule, who was answering a question from Selebi Phikwe Eas MP, Mr Kgoberego Nkawana, said two out of the three fire engines were procured in 2000 and the other in 1995.
“Though old, the three fire engines have been servicing the town,” he said.
Currently, he said one fire engine was operational and the other was outsourced for service while the third one was being serviced at the council workshop and was expected to be back on the road by end of last week.
He indicated that the council had prioritised procurement of a rapid response vehicle in the next budget cycle.
MP Nkawana had asked the minister whether he was aware that the Selebi Phikwe township had no serviceable fire engine.
He also wanted to know if there were plans to remedy the situation urgently. ENDS
