12 Aug 2021
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has concluded the process of upgrading, incorporation, recognition and declaration of the settlements, Parliament has heard.
In response to a parliamentary question Wednesday, local government assistant minister, Mr Mabuse Pule said the ministry had received requests for incorporation, recognition and declaration of some settlements from various districts and Kgare/Sebotswane settlement in the Kweneng District was among them.
He said appraisal was done following extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders including ministries of environment, natural resources conservation and tourism, basic education, health and wellness as well as agricultural development and food security.
“The appraisal culminated in an assessment by the Inter-Ministerial Standing Committee which advises the ministry on such process,” he said.
Takatokwane MP, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe, had asked when the Kgare/Sebotswane settlement would be recognised as a village as recommended by the Kweneng District Council. ENDS
