Kgosi Sibangani Mosojane of Mosojane village has pleaded with residents to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols especially while in isolation, as failure to do so could spread the virus.
Kgosi Mosojane’s remarks come amid many reports of COVID-19 cases on home isolation.
He told BOPA in an interview that some COVID-19 positive people continued engaging in daily activities as before with some being seen around public areas, even going as far as Masunga for shopping.
Kgosi Mosojane said some were seen by the medical staff who alerted the police to apprehend them.
He said the misconduct prompted him to call a meeting with other village leaders, committees, Office of the District Commissioner and District Health Management Team to address this problem.
He said it was advisable for people on isolation to inform neighbours or other family members to assist when the need arise.
He said currently Mosojane had 19 active COVID-19 cases, which he said was alarming for a small village.
Kgosi Mosojane said it was apparent that the cases were transmitted within the village, as movement from other zones was limited.
Kgosi Mosojane also expressed concern at some elders who did not adhere to COVID-19 protocols even though they were the most vulnerable.
He said currently it was difficult for law enforcement officers to apprehend offenders due to the fact that information on patients was treated as confidential.
Kgosi Mosojane said people were taking advantage of the confidentiality clause as they knew that only medical staff were aware of their status. ends
