Football players should remain positive during trying times of the COVID-19 endemic, Tlagadi Mfolo Company’s director, Mfolo Mfolo has said.
Mfolo, a former Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, said this during Security Systems football club’s psychological care and support workshop for players.
Mfolo, whose company specialises in developing youth in sports, explained that the aim of the workshop was to provide counselling to players because they had lost inner selves because of the pandemic.
“COVID-19 has exposed us to suffering and out of it we will come victorious. Never give up despite the conditions that we are living in” he said.
He stressed the importance of self-care, urging players to adhere to health protocols so as to defeat the pandemic and be able to return to the field.
Mfolo urged players to take care of needs such as food, water, shelter, clothing, sleep and health as much as possible
He emphasised that exercising helped to manage stress, fight off illnesses and maintain positive mental health.
He said while one might not be able to go to the gym to train or work out, there were other creative alternatives to stay physically active. Mfolo also noted that at the end of the workshop players should feel safe and secure, be energised, resilient and should be able to take charge of themselves.
He further encouraged them to maintain awareness, respect and support the decisions made by various governing bodies about sport and performance events.
For her part, the founder and president of Mokwatla wa Bomme, an organization that develops women especially at rural areas, Gosego Mmolawa encouraged the players to always open up on issues that might affect them psychologically and mentally.
She urged them to develop and package themselves well and consider themselves as investors and entrepreneurs.
Mmolawa also emphasised the importance of great attitude, self-care and self-development during the COVID-19 regime urging them not to only focus on sports as their source of income but rather do other things on the side that could generate income. ENDS
