Minister encourages local ambulance production

10 Aug 2021

The advent of COVID-19 has placed health services and equipment on high demand hence the need for local companies such as Zambezi Motors to adequately provide services such as production of ambulances.

Visiting the plant in Gaborone yesterday, Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Edwin Dikoloti  noted that Zambezi Motors, which manufactures vehicle parts, had the capacity to refurbish vehicles at a fraction of the cost of a new vehicle.

In addition to manufacturing vehicle parts and accessories, he said, the company also offered repair services.

“Your journey is worth celebrating and as government we appreciate the efforts of Zambezi Motors, particularly during this harsh period,” he said.

He encouraged the company to continue contributing to the growth of the health sector and assured its management of his ministry’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs.

The promotion of citizen entrepreneurship, he said, was aimed at diversifying the economy which had plummeted and government coffers depleted due to the pandemic.

For his part, company founder and managing director Mr Ishmael Nshakazhogwe said it was committed to developing the country’s economy, skills transfer and addressing Botswana’s unemployment problem.

Stating that the company had over 30 years in the automotive industry, Mr Nshakazhogwe said he valued government’s support throughout the period and  vowed  to continue being of service to Batswana.

“Zambezi Motors has over the years supplied Botswana Defence Force with military assets from tanks to earth moving equipment as well as different types of vehicles, all which the company maintains and services,” he said. ends
