Magosi elevation lies with Duiker

09 Aug 2021

The recently appointed Mochudi Centre Chiefs head coach, Itumeleng ‘Tumie’ Duiker has been tasked with returning Magosi to the premier league as a matter of urgency.

Speaking in an interview, Magosi spokesperson, Olebile Sikwane, said the new coach was also mandated to work on youth development.

“We expect him to unearth new talent that will elevate the club to greater heights,” he said.

He said Duiker signed a two-year contract with the option to renew for one year.

Sikwane indicated that in response to their advertisement for the head coach position, Duiker was among the 22 coaches who applied for the job, adding that they then shortlisted five with the intension to interview them.

However, Sikwane said they failed to conduct interviews due to COVID-19 situation and among the five coaches some ended up committing elsewhere, which led the club choosing the best suited for their assignment from the remaining few.

“That is how Duiker was appointed,” he added.

The club’s spokesperson described Duiker as a legend with vast experience and they believed he had the ability to take the team to greater heights.

He said Duiker had also shown potential when at the helm of Extension Gunners under difficult circumstances.

“He was dealing with extra ordinary pressure at a very resource constrained club but was able to pull through,” he said.

Sikwane said the former Zebras captain understood the pressure Magosi were under, adding that they were also impressed by the fact that he was highly committed to youth development.

He urged Centre Chiefs community to honour, respect and be patient with the new coach.

“We understand that everyone is desperate for the team to go back to the top league but we should all keep in mind that it takes time to achieve the desired goal,” he added.

For his part, Duiker said he was humbled by the management’s trust in him and assured supporters that he would do his best.

“ It is a great honor for me to coach Magosi. They are a good team with potential for greatness, “ he said.

However, he indicated that it would take some time and resources to reach their goal and asked supporters to be patient.

Building Magosi into a formidable team that could get back to the elite league would require not only resources but also time considering the fact players have not had play time for a long time due to COVID-19 situation.

“I urge everyone to be patient and to understand that we have a big mountain to climb ahead of us. We need to pull together to succeed,” he said. ENDS
