Chairperson calls for professionalism

Lack of professionalism by most teams in the North West region has resulted in lack of sponsorship, Nhabe Regional Football Association (NRFA) chairperson, Norman Sebele, has said.
Sebele made the remarks during NRFA annual general assembly in Maun on Saturday. Okavango members attended the metting virtually.
“Teams should establish strong committees and work with other experts for strategies and plans that could attract sponsors instead of teams settling for meagre sponsorship,” he said.
Sebele also advised teams in the North West region to merge and form one formidable team saying this would increase the team’s chances to qualify for the premier league.
He said if at least three teams could merge to form one team, this could increase their chances for the premier league.
He, however, said it was unfortunate to consider such a model since teams were run by societies.
Sebele also urged football teams to come up with a development plan for young players saying youth teams of under 15, under 16 and 17, were the future of football in Botswana.
He said with a development plan in place, this would allow teams to have a pool of players and not rely on buying players every season.
The NRFA secretary general Maipelo Malatlhe said most teams did not have equipment.
Malatlhe said lack of proper playgrounds was also a challenge as it affected games during the rainy season. ENDS
